The guitar combines a solid Sitka spruce top with solid genuine mahogany back and sides, giving it the warm, woody voice associated with vintage mahogany Martins. Compared to a D-18, the D-16T has a slightly brighter attack and a more immediate response thanks to its Hybrid A-Frame bracing. The satin finish also allows the guitar to resonate freely and gives it a natural, broken-in feel from day one.

Its Extra Low Profile mahogany neck makes it comfortable and fast to play, while decorative touches such as the herringbone rosette, herringbone back strip, and abalone diamond-and-square inlays elevate it beyond a basic workhorse acoustic.
